Postgradaute Diploma in Arts (Social Theory)

The postgraduate diploma allows students to undertake a research project in a specialist field of study. Students will gain considerable knowledge in an area of social theory and engage in critical assessment of the major theoretical claims of the discipline. The course provides a pathway to higher degree research for students who have not completed a four year BA (Honours) with a research component in social theory.

Course objectives:
Students who complete the postgraduate diploma will:
acquire knowledge of the background necessary to proceed to research work in social theory;
develop an ability to proceed to original work in the subject;
acquire the formal qualifications necessary to proceed to masters level work in social theory.
Entry requirement:
The minimum entry requirement is:
an undergraduate degree with a major in social theory or cognate discipline and a grade average equivalent to an H2A (75%) at the University of Melbourne in the major
or
a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Social Theory) with a grade average equivalent to an H2A (75%) at the University of Melbourne
Course intake: February (Semester One) and July (Semester Two)
Applications: Applications close 31 October (February intake) and 31 May (July intake). Late applications may be accepted, subject to the availability of places.
